Wouldn't it be better if we can die?

Wouldn't it be better if we can die?

Good morning to all of you. After hearing the topic, probably you all may have a thousand questions by now. And have a thousand methods we can die. Because that's what humans do. Right? Not dying but thinking. So, my dear friends, first, let me clear your doubts.

So today my topic was, "wouldn't it be better if we can die". Now probably you are thinking "we can just die, can't we? so what is this guy trying to say?". And of course, I'm not encouraging dying in this speech. We all know that we will die someday. That's inevitable. But can we really die? No, my friends. We can't die. Death is a thing that is out of our free will. There are several ways a person will die. More generally, I will categorize them into three groups. We may die naturally after experiencing maximum lifespan, we may die because of a sudden accident, or a disease and we may die by taking our own life.  In each of those cases, we die because we have no other choice. We can reduce the chance of dying from sudden accidents and diseases but at the end of life, we all will have to go. And the case of suicide, no one like to do that. There are no easy or painless ways to take your own life. We can see people often take their lives because they think they have no other choice but to leave their lives.

To explain this further, I will take an example. Think you want to go to Ella by train, so you go to pettah station and take a ticket. But you don’t know how far you can go using this ticket. Now you are starting the journey. Meanwhile, you’re seeing people fall off the train accidentally. Sometimes people jump off the train crying, screaming “I can’t go further, I’ve had enough, I’m leaving the train”. Sometimes the conductor comes and says, “Sir or Madam, you can go only this far from this ticket, you should get off the train at the next station”. Either way, people end their journey. The name of that train is life. Ella is like immortality.

So, I will get to my topic again, what if we can die? In the earlier example, what if anyone wants to go to Ella can really go to Ella? No conductors, no falling off from the train, no jumping off the train. And of course, people should be able to stop their journey from anywhere they like. Think two men get into the train from Pettah station hoping to go to Ella. One man is enjoying the journey, singing, laughing and at Kandy, he feels like he enjoyed his journey enough. He doesn’t have anything to do further. So, he gets off the train at Kandy station. The second man is having a bad time while the journey. He’s having a headache and vomiting, and he decides to get off the train at Kandy. Either way that’s their choice to get off the train. They decide where to get off.

Isn’t it convenient? When we want to go, we can go. Nothing to worry about. And you can stay as far as you want too. That’s why I asked that wouldn’t it be better if we can die.  So, in the end let me ask a simple question from all of you. If you are immortal and you can die anytime pressing a button on your hand, aren’t you more convenient?

Thank you.
